My recommendation would be, OK to ride the train in, might want to take a cab back. If you have to ride the train late at night, you should be fine, but be careful. Being from Ohio, I would worry a bit about making a target of yourselves. If you sit in the front close to the driver you should be fine. Crime on the CTA is very rare since the penalties are like 10 greater than if they were to happen on the street. That said, I don't know about taking the Red Line that far south late super late at night :-) (like after 2:00 am). In all seriousness, though, it's not too unsafe.Įr not really, you should pretty much be fine (unless you plan on starting a gang war with someone, you should be fine). This may sound stupid, but if you're sitting there shaking and twitching around looking at everyone (making eye contact then quickly looking away, etc.) you make yourself look like an easy target. The most important thing that I always tell scared friends and family: Always look confident and brave. Obviously try to travel with someone anytime after. I've never paid attention to that, but it definitely sounds like a good idea. That's an easy tip.įront car, sure, that makes sense. But still be alert.ĭon't fucking play with your phone. I've honestly never seen anything completely bizarre.ĭon't listen to music too loud to not hear your surroundings - at the same time, I do suggest maybe putting ear buds in (even if you don't listen to anything) - act like you're listening to music and no one will really bother you. It gets a bit shady south of Jackson usually, I use that as a rule of thumb. I've ridden the Red Line between 3-5am several times and between midnight and 3am countless times.
